A small boat with a person rowing, approaching a large sailing ship in foggy, dark waters at night.

A young drifter named Tip O’Hara spends his days swindling players in low-level card games, all while dreaming of a better life. Robbed of his winnings one night, he’s kidnapped aboard a whaling ship for a year of involuntary labor.

After weeks of hardship, and with the perils of the Arctic Sea ahead, Tip escapes with the captain’s hidden cash and knowledge of a legendary card game nearby — located in Nova Scotia’s infamous Devil’s Half-Acre.

Rowing through the night, he arrives at the fabled port town with a scheme to finally turn his luck — but cheating this notorious poker game comes with consequences... especially when the town’s Mayor is involved.
